Brutally Honest Review: Halo Board Beast Vs Evolve

What does a $1,297.00 Halo Board Beast get you versus a $1,699.00 Bamboo Evolve GTR? Well, In the world of electronic skateboarding, you really do get what you pay for. So that means go for the Evolve, right? Turns out when it’s the Halo Board Beast vs the Evolve, the answer is no.

Now, let’s be real here. Any purchase upwards of one grand is not a purchase, it’s an investment. You are not going to get a bad E-board if you’re willing to spend over $1,000.00 on one. As such, if you’re looking for an electronic skateboard that has both the best specs and is worth the money, we would recommend the Halo Board Beast.

Alright, so let’s get a few things out of the way first.

  • Q: “Is the Evolve better than the Halo Board Beast?”
  • A: In terms of specs, just slightly.
  • Q: “Should you get the Evolve, then?”
  • A: “No, and here’s why”

The Halo Board Beast is $400.00 cheaper than the Evolve but comparing their specs would just be managing trivial externalities. Boiling it all down, the main reason why you would want to purchase the Halo Board instead of the Evolve is because Halo boards are the most reasonable boards for what you’re going to get for your money.

These boards are investments. When you’re travelling from point A to point B, this is seriously going to be all you need to get there, and you won’t need the arbitrary features that come with dropping an extra few hundred dollars.

Also, personally Halo Board Beasts just look cooler compared to the bamboo in the Evolve. I’ve always had a thing for the “techy” and “cyberpunk” look, not so much the weird bamboo stuff. That’s just me, though.

Alright, here’s some specs comparisons.

The Best Electronic Skateboard for the Money

When looking at the Halo Board Beast vs the Evolve E-boards, the thing most people are going to be thinking is this: “Which electronic skateboard should I invest in that will not be a regretful investment?”

The Halo Board Beast will be the best investment for your money since it gets right to the point:

  • Looks nice? Check.
  • Reaches destination fast? Check.
  • Safety? Check.
  • Long Battery? Check.
  • No pressure from hills? Check.

This is practically all anyone really needs.

It’s sad how often there are these useless add-ons and specs in an E-board that just don’t really make any sense. Why do we need all this extra nonsense in an E-board when we just need something that both looks cool and gets from point A to point B quickly and hassle free?

It’s actually a little bit of a pet peeve of mine for manufacturers to tack on all this extra stuff that really makes no sense just to increase the price. That’s why I’m highly advising that people get the Halo Board Beast instead of the Evolve. It’s not even that the Evolve is a bad board. In fact, for what you get, it’s actually quite nice, save for a few online comments about safety.

However, if you really want something that’s safe, fast, get’s the job done, and looks cool, save your money and get something like the Halo Board Beast. Even for a board that can last a long time, $1,297.00 is still quite the investment, but it’s for sure better than other boards costing $2k that need to be replaced in a few months.

Halo Board Beast Safety

So, let’s be real. Any electronic skateboard that you get is going to come with a spice of danger. If we’re going to ultimate safe route, then we’d suggest electronic bicycles. But skateboards are cool! And besides, there’s something fun about the risk and the proximity to danger that all skateboarding has to offer.

That’s unless you’re irrationally being dangerous. That is, don’t forgo a helmet because you don’t want to “look stupid”. That’s just, well, stupid.

Anyway, in terms of the Halo Board Beast, this is a decent electronic board and it’s great that it’s safe. The problem I have with the Evolve bamboo board along with many other electronic board is that despite the cool numbers on their specs, the actual build can be quite cheap and dangerous. In fact, there were a few comments on online forums that I’ve dug up stating that the Evolve and other boards had interchangeable parts that suffered major wear and tear or even broke mid ride.

IF your trucks are dangerously loose or your wheels are put on improperly, it really doesn’t matter to much for a traditional skateboard –one could easily jump off the board and assess the situation without getting hurt.

When you’re on a board moving at the speed of a car, though, that’s a good reason to be concerned for when your board is malfunctioning.

So, as we’ve stated before, despite the better overall specs of the Evolve, the Halo Board still wins in the department of safety. In fact, if you value your head, I’d suggest getting the Halo Board.

Is the Halo Board Beast Worth the Money?

Alright. Before we dive into this one, we wanted to talk about just how you should be deciding your electronic skateboard purchase. Is the Halo Board Beast worth the money? Is the Evolve bamboo board worth it? What’s the most “worth it” electronic skateboard? The first thing you most probably will do is look at the specs of the board and compare them to see which electronic skateboard has the best specs for the lowest cost.

This is misleading.

Why? Well, imagine the PC analogy.

If you’re aware of the work that comes with building your own PC, you’d know that sometimes it can really be fun yet a pain in the butt. You’d also know that the appeal of buying a pre-built PC is that it comes with all the great specs for a fraction of the price of if you built one of your own. So, just buy a computer with good specs and we’re good to go, right?

Well, for those with pre-built PCs, you’d already know that the parts used to generate these great specs aren’t that great. In fact, they’re typically shoddily constructed and poorly engineered by outsourced labor. This makes your computer worse off than if it were to use long-lasting parts.

Bringing this back to electronic skateboards, the same problem applies. Poor parts and cheap construction make for safety hazards and poor utility, even with the specs involved. Sure, you may be able to move fast and far, but that speed and distance will certainly deteriorate due to shoddy engineering.

We’re fortunate that the Halo Board Beast doesn’t deteriorate as easily as others. It’s perhaps one of the few pre-built skateboards that actually do a great job at holding its shape for its price point –even more so than the higher-end brands.

The Best E-board for Commuting

The Hao Board Beast weighs 23 pounds and features a handle at the back. That handle actually makes all the difference! It’s perfect for when you want to just hop off and pull your board along without having to lug the whole machine wherever you have to go.

As for the general commuting experience, remember this: no one wants an unreliable board. Beyond the specs being very attractive, it also stays that way for a long time.

This makes the board a reliable piece of equipment, so you don’t have to go searching for a new transportation device that actually works. The worst thing in the world would be investing over one grand on a piece of new tech only for it to break after a few months. Reliability over time. It’s important.

The Best Long-Lasting Electronic Skateboard

As we said before, distance anxiety is real and it’s one hell of a fear to have.

I know I’m not the only one to feel this in the electronic skateboard community, but distance anxiety is real. We can all do the calculations in our head, but the fear of losing all your battery and having to walk the rest of the way lugging your eboard around is a real one.

For a range of 25 miles, this is almost 4 times more than what the Evolve has to offer.

Of course, you have a few other boards that go for about 50 miles or so for upwards of $2,000.00.  If you really need to go that far, be my guest. Personally, I would only use an electronic skateboard for inner city transportation that gets you from point A to B. For that, you only need about 10-15 miles, but the extra few miles on the Halo Board Beast really alleviates that anxiety.
